Home Security Systems: Wired Vs Wireless

Research has shown that homes with a security system are less likely to be broken into than those without. This is probably because cameras and burglar alarms highlight to potential thieves that they’re unlikely to get away with a crime.

In the past, home security systems were all wired and connected to the home via a panel that was stuck onto or into a wall somewhere. However, nowadays the home security market has bloomed into something quite extraordinary and homeowners can now use a wireless home security system to protect their home. But what’s better, a wired or wireless system? Let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of both:

Wired Security Systems

One of the advantages of wired home security systems is they often cost a lot less than their wireless counterparts and they also tend to have fewer components. Another advantage of wired systems is that some of the newer models are compatible with wireless systems, meaning you can set up a basic security system and add the components you need.

A disadvantage of wired systems is that they need to be installed by a professional and this means they will have to be in your home permanently.

Wireless Security Systems

One of the advantages of a wireless home security system is that you can effectively take it with you. As long as you have access to the internet you can check in and see what’s happening in and around your home. Another advantage is that you can adjust your security settings from wherever you happen to be. Want to adjust the heat in your home or your garage’s security? You can at a flick of a switch.

A disadvantage of wireless systems is that the system can be affected by bad weather, although this rarely happens.

Now you know some of the main advantages and disadvantages of wired and wireless home security systems you can choose the right system for you.
